The Grade ll listed Palace cinema in Risca has now been returned to public use. Originally opened around 1912, the Palace was one of the first purpose-built cinemas in the Valleys and it has cost £2.25M to redevelop, after standing derelict for more than 20 years. The historic facade has been preserved in the refurbished building and the interior designed in Art Deco style.

The Palace now includes a library, a youth space, meeting rooms and will stage arts events and film nights. It also contains the new Risca Customer Services Centre which has been relocated from Pontymister.

We had installed a Smartsoft Queue Management system in Pontymister and were keen to move it to the Palace. We replaced our CXL-TPS printer with a Desk POS printer and installed Smartkey virtual Web based key pads at each Counter position. Customer Services provided an LCD screen and we configured it using Smartmonitor to blend in with the new colour scheme.

Local residents, many of whom had campaigned to save the building, are delighted to see that this historic and iconic building has been restored to its former glory and transformed into such an exciting and well-used resource.
